Matilda The Musical

"REJOICE. It is even more glorious than promised.” – New York Times

TIME Magazine’s #1 Show of the Year! Winner of 50 international awards, including four Tony Awards®, MATILDA THE MUSICAL is the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

Based on the beloved novel by Roald Dahl, MATILDA continues to thrill sold-out audiences of all ages on Broadway and in London’s West End.  The Wall Street Journal says, “The makers of MATILDA have done the impossible – triumphantly! It is smart, sweet, zany and stupendous fun.”

Please Note: Children under four years of age are not permitted at Broadway shows. At designated shows, like the Orpheum's Family Series, children of all ages are permitted. However, everyone regardless of age must have a ticket.

What Is MATILDA Like?
MATILDA features a first-ever Broadway score by Australian musician/comedian Tim Minchin and a darkly comical yet compassionate book by Dennis Kelly. Rob Howell’s scrabble-tile explosion of a set, playfully and colorfully lit by Hugh Vanstone, is the visual counterpart of Dahl’s creative genius spilling into the theater. Director Matthew Warchus transforms the stage into a playground on which a talented group of kid-actors reigns. Irresistible songs like the sweet “When I Grow Up” and the ripping “Revolting Children” don’t pull any punches, and the catchiness of the music is matched by Peter Darling’s snappy choreography. You’ll root for Matilda as she struggles to find the strength to stand up to the bullies and overcome the obstacles. You’ll delight in rediscovering the magic of musical theatre and savor a stageful of great performances.

Is MATILDA Good for Kids?
Of course! MATILDA is perfect for kids 6 and older: Colorful costumes, onstage magic and over-the-top comic performances make this musical a great Broadway outing for young theatergoers.
