GRAMMY Nominated Tiempo Libre at the Halloran Centre April 1

MEMPHIS, TN – The inaugural On Stage at the Halloran Centre series concludes with a joyful show of Cuban music! Three-time GRAMMY®-nominated Afro-Cuban music group Tiempo Libre will take the Halloran Centre stage for one night only on Saturday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m. for a sizzling night of music.

The members of Tiempo Libre grew up studying together in the classical music conservatories of Havana.  Dreaming of freedom and opportunity, the seven musicians moved to the U.S., getting together in their “free time” (“tiempo libre” in Spanish) to play Cuban timba music. Today, these world music ambassadors feel lucky to have very little free time.  They play their exhilarating, joyful music to packed houses via worldwide concert tours, and their albums have been released by leading record companies and honored with three Grammy nominations.

Tiempo Libre is celebrated for its sophisticated Cuban music featuring an irresistible, exhilarating mix of jazz harmonies, contemporary sonorities and seductive Latin rhythms.  Throughout the past 15 years, the band has been featured on television shows including The Tonight Show, Live from Lincoln Center, and Dancing with the Stars and virtually every entertainment program on Univision and Telemundo.

Last fall, the band celebrated the release of the single Mi Gente, on Fania Records, in which the band duets with the original recording of Hector Lavoe’s voice to deliver a high-powered performance of Johnny Pacheco’s classic composition.  Tiempo Libre’s most recent album Panamericano on Universal Music Latin Entertainment pays tribute to their life as immigrants in the U.S. The group’s GRAMMY®-nominated album Bach in Havana is a Cuban interpretation of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
