About this Interactive Field Trip

Stepping Into the Story gives K-2nd grade students the opportunity to explore their favorite books through their bodies, voices, and imaginations. This field trip engages students in a hands-on, immersive workshop that explores creativity, literacy, and critical thinking as they take the story off the page and onto the stage. Classrooms will explore the book Thank You, Omu! by Oge Mora (Caldecott Honor and Coretta Scott King Award Winner). In Thank You, Omu!, Omu (pronounced Ah-moo) shares her delicious thick red stew with everyone in the neighborhood. After Omu gives away the stew to her grateful neighbors, they repay her generosity with food and gifts of their own. Students will explore themes of sharing, generosity, community, and culture as they step into Omu’s story.

Stepping Into the Story integrates Tennessee State Standards in Fine Arts with Tennessee State Standards in English Language Arts. Please see below for more information.

Available for bookings December 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027 by inquiry only.
